Measure your window

Before you start, grab:
- A metal tape measure — at least 2 metres. A fabric one stretches and gives wrong numbers.
- Pen and paper — or just keep this quiz open and type as you go.
- About 5 minutes — take your time, it's worth it.
- Access to your window from inside — and a step-stool if it's tall.
First — does your window have a recess?
A recess is the box-shaped opening your window sits in — the wall sticks out around the glass, leaving a frame of empty space. Halo fits inside that space.
Are there any obstructions inside the recess?
Things that stick out into the space and would touch the blind — most commonly the window handle. If yes, we'll show you how to measure around them.
Measure the width — three times
Hold the tape horizontally inside the recess. Once at the top, once at the middle, once at the bottom.
Why three times? Walls are never perfectly straight. We use the smallest of your three numbers so the blind always slides in cleanly — no jamming, no gaps.
Now the height — three times
Hold the tape vertically inside the recess. Once on the left, once in the middle, once on the right.
Same reason as the width. Three points + the smallest = guaranteed fit, even if your recess isn't perfectly square.
How deep is the recess?
From the front edge of the recess to the back where the window glass sits.
Halo needs at least 3 cm of clear depth to mount. Most modern recesses have plenty — this is just a safety check.
Two depth measurements — we'll use the smaller
Because of the handle/latch, we need both numbers. Halo has to fit in front of the obstruction, not behind it.
How to do it:
① Tape from the front edge of the recess to the glass — that's the maximum depth.
② Tape from the front edge of the recess to the front face of the handle — that's the usable depth.
We use whichever is smaller.
