Step 1: Measuring Your Window's Recess Depth
Before measuring your window, check the recess depth to ensure there’s enough space for the HaloBlind. The minimum required depth is 1.18 inches, 3 cm. Measure from the front edge of the recess, farthest from the window, to the shallowest point.
Watch for Obstructions
Common obstructions within your recess space include:
- Window handles
- Latches
- Locks
- Winders or cranks
Measuring with Obstructions
Even with a deep recess, obstructions can block proper installation. To check clearance:
- Measure the recess depth from the front of the recess to the window.
- Measure the obstruction depth from the window to the front of the obstruction.
- Subtract the obstruction depth from the recess depth to find the unobstructed space.
Important: You need at least 1.18 inches, 3 cm, of unobstructed recess space to install the HaloBlind securely.
Step 2: Measuring the Width
Since windows are often not perfectly square, measure the width in three different places to account for unevenness:
- Top of the window recess
- Middle of the window recess
- Bottom of the window recess
Record the smallest of these three measurements. This ensures your HaloBlind fits the narrowest point of your window.
Step 3: Measuring the Height
Next, measure the height of your window recess. Once again, take measurements from three locations:
- Left of the window recess
- Middle of the window recess
- Right of the window recess
Just like with the width, record the smallest of these three measurements.
Avoid Common Measuring Mistakes
To get the most accurate measurements, avoid these common errors:
- Measuring at an angle: Always hold the tape measure straight and level.
- Bending the tape measure: Keep the tape straight to ensure accurate measurements.
- Rounding incorrectly: Round to the nearest sixteenth of an inch, or tenth of a centimeter, if needed.

Every order includes the Halo Fit Promise. You can initiate a return within 30 nights, even if your Halo was customized to your measurements, color, and opening direction, and even if it has been installed and used.
If the fit is not right, we will remake it to your updated measurements and reship it with express delivery at no additional cost.
